Expectations.
The Program Test Manager in general, is the person in charge for all testing activities of the program.
Besides having a good knowledge on defining the test strategy in large programs, it is crucial that this
person has a perfect collaboration and understanding with the program-team. This role requires the
competences to manage the expectations from the program to the testing teams.
In most of the cases, this will not be a fulltime function. Therefore, the same person can manage
multiple programs as PTM or combine this with the TM role in some of the projects within the program.
Responsibility’s and tasks
Responsible for defining & governing the overall test strategy for the projects delivered in the
scope of program so they are in line with the program objectives.
Capturing expectations from Program Management and other relevant stakeholders
concerning testing and for defining the scope of testing. This is needed to understand what is
to be tested, what quality attributes are to be covered and the applicable constraints.
Defining the overall test strategy, organization and processes for the program in the Program
Master Test Plan. I am responsible for reviewing the Master Test Plans for the individual
projects in scope of the program and ensure that they are aligned.
Governing that structured testing processes and methodology are applied throughout the
program. I evaluate deviations (if any from the above point) and escalate appropriately when
needed.
Reporting on the status / health of the testing in projects (in terms of metrics derived from
various projects) and manage the test maturity for my program
I am in close contact with the Program Management, Service Center Testing and other testing
stakeholders
Responsible for organizing and coordinating testing across the projects in scope of the
program so that all dependencies between the projects are tested.
Managing the dependencies between testing in the projects
Setting up cross-project testing matters such as test environment management, test
management tooling, test automation, test reporting…
Making the necessary resources available and on-boarded onto the projects at the right time
Identification and mitigation of testing related risks and managing testing related issues
Coordinate with Test Managers and Test Leads within program and guide them towards
common best practices to be followed and identify possible synergies between testing teams
across various projects with in the program. I ensures the smooth collaboration of Test
team(s) with other teams (development, functional, infra etc.)
Define and oversee the execution of the Test Automation Strategy for the program
Responsible for overall test coverage for the program so we give complete transparency to
the program-team to decide on what needs to be tested and what not.
Understanding the business & IT solution and the acceptance criteria
Creating the product risk analysis for the program as a basis for risk-prioritized testing
Ensuring that there are no gaps or significant overlaps between testing in the respective
projects in scope of the program
Ensuring that end-to-end testing is defined, planned and performed
