VITO’s Remote Sensing unit develops and operates innovative Earth observation systems that help get to grips with the major societal and economic challenges facing our planet. Our projects are in the sphere of data distribution, on-demand image processing on large and scalable platforms and Big Data analytics to extract information from satellite and airborne (UAV, drones) data with these datasets growing enormously fast in size (from terabytes to petabytes).
Today, the resulting information is offered to our end users via various online applications. Due to the increasing demand for interactive visualisations and cross-platform integrations, we are looking for someone who can play an active role in the design and development of online applications and associated backend systems. In this, the world of remote sensing offers various challenges that call for creative solutions with a direct impact on a broad spectrum of end users.
Your responsibilities
– Take responsibility in the technical design of existing VITO applications and new initiatives;
– Analysing various technical solutions and reporting on them;
– Analysing new requirements and further developing them into user stories and corresponding technical specifications;
– Implementing user stories and writing automated tests;
– Solving tickets to support the existing VITO applications;
– Collaborate within an agile, multidisciplinary team of software engineers and domain experts;
Skills
- Experience in designing and developing API-based backend applications in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Python or NodeJS;
- Experience in designing and developing complex Angular applications;
- Experience in setting up integrations between different applications/platforms;
- Basic knowledge in Linux native environments (CentOS, …);
- You are willing to broaden your technical knowledge by studying new, relevant technologies;
- Master’s degree with a clear focus on IT (applied IT, Industrial Sciences, IT, …) or equivalent through experience in a complex IT environment;
- Strong analytical skills are crucial given that you will be part of an ambitious team where business needs in IT and Earth observation are constantly evolving
- You are a real team player and mix easily in a group;
- You are self-organised
- You have a flexible personality, are service-minded and have excellent communication skills;
